What’s Startups.com?

Simply stated: Startups.com is a Q&A site for people to ask business question. It’s actually much more than that. It’s a vibrant community of entrepreneurs, small business owners, seasoned businesspeople and also home-based entrepreneur-wannabes. We’re all striving to offer the best answer to all of the business questions most people around the world might have. Watch our video to get a better feel what’s Startups.com is all about.

Some interesting facts

We decided to put Startups.com to a good use as a Q&A community site when we came across some really powerful stats.

- Did you know that in the US alone there are 30M businesses? And that out of those 30M businesses 52% are home-based? 75% of the small businesses in the US have no employees. We thought you might want to know these are facts we got from the U.S. Small Business Administration Office of Advocacy, September 2009.

- On top of that, every year over 600,000 new companies are created. We’ve started several businesses, so we know how lost you feel when you’re trying to start out, to do things on your own, to quit your 9-to-5 job. And the most pressing need we thought was: gee, there are millions of people out there in the business field, around the world. WHO DO THEY TURN FOR HELP WHEN THEY NEED IT? Starting a business is never easy, always rocky and full of obstacles.

Note: In case you you missed the post in Techcrunch, we bought the domain Startups.com more than 1 year ago. Here’s the link.

- Web: http://ask.startups.com will bring you our Ask Question page (http://askstartups.com also works)

- Twitter: send your tweet to @askstartups followed by your question. We’ll reply with a url for you to complete formulating your question. It’s important that you start with @askstartups, it doesn’t work if you just include it in the middle or end of your tweet

- Email: Send your mail to ask [at] startups.com and in the Subject write the title of your question, and in the body write the description. We’ll post it for you and you’ll get a reply with the url of your question to check upon the answers.

Can I “politely” mention my blog several times in every answer I write?

Not really. The question is a place for you to help people find the right answer for their business question. We believe it’s valuable for you to answer, even though you don’t mention blantly your blog in your answer, because this is a credibility builiding thing. If someone is interested in what you got to say, will surely check out your profile. Your profile is exactly the right place for you to brag about your blog, your achievements, what you do, how can you help them for a fee, etc. But don’t use your answer to push your blog in order to bring traffic your way, the community will just kick you out. Add value first, and then you’ll surely reap the rewards handsomely.
