<p>Hi guys, I have a job as a web developer at a small time company. The pay is well okay just to make ends meet barely - considering that there aren't many available jobs and I have a good history with my company which means that theres not an option of switching jobs I work freelance part time from home as a web developer. I have a couple of contacts who get work and send me the requirements and I develop it. I've kept really low rates initially but as time goes I've realised that I can't depend completely on just two contacts - especially considering that I had a really bad shout out with one of my contacts as he was being terribly unfair with payments and promises so you coudl say that I'm down to one contact who I'm relying on for freelance work.</p> <p>I would want to be able to go out and meet up and make my own direct clients instead of always having to rely on a middleman for the job in this case and achieve a certain bit of independancy in this regards. Since my freelance work doesn't interfere with my job and my employer have no issues with that at all. I've always been a more behind the scenes kind of person so getting up and going down to look for a client is totally new for me. How should I start off ...</p> <p>EDIT =====</p> <p>I did try online freelancing sites like elance and rent-a-coder but the pay scales on average are really low or perhaps I haven't been lucky on them :( - in contrast whatever freelance work I get from my local contacts pays off much much better. The fact that I'm recieving work from contacts who do this for a living my percentage is obviously extremely meager plus the fact that I can't risk being totally dependant upon only one contact. But mobile internet and in-app advertising still hasn't taken off in the UK. </p> <p>Why are there so few start-ups in this space? Not many seem to want to cash in on the trend. With Ad enablers like Smaato (SOMA platform), publisher inventory is pretty easy to get as well. The only missing part of the equation is Advertisers. But advertisers (brands and media/marketing agencies) can be approached. And since it is only PPC, they would probably not be reluctant to try it out, since they only pay for results (i.e. for clicks). </p> <p>I look forward to someone (hopefully with prior knowledge of this industry) to help me out here. We are only in the market research stage at the moment, but will roll it out soon if there is not good reason as to why not to. </p>
