I have started a business coaching blog and I would like to give it more visibility. I mean, I am a business student and I want to make my blog strong so after I graduate I can offer my services from there and make some money with ads, etc.

I don't want to struggle because the blog is not well positioned when that happens. I have different articles and tips on it and it's gonna grow but I want to make sure I don't do it in vain.

Any tips regarding SEO?

Rick it would help if you would list your blog address here so that people would actually be able to visit it and give you actual feedback. Here are some pointers in general:

  1. If you are using wordpress get the All in One SEO pack for your blog. Put relevant details in the title and description sections to help Google find you better.

  2. Get your blog indexed with Google. To do this just google how to index your blog depending on what platform you are using.

  3. Start becoming active in relevant forums according to the specific niche's that you address.

  4. Do guest posts on blogs which get significantly more traffic than you. I write a popular blog on entrepreneurship. You can look me up to see if you have anything I would like to syndicate on my blog.

  5. Publish something on your blog at least once every two days.

Do this and you should be off to a good start.

There are tips. However, there are no tricks that will be beneficial in the long run.

Build your own following through comments on other blogs, social media (FB, Twitter, etc).

Don't write generalities, address your niche.

Make it keyword rich with words that represent your niche.

Post often. Reply to comments.

Twit a lot.

When it comes to SEO it all comes down to 2 things: good original content, and lots of websites/blogs linking to it organically. Sorry, no shurtcuts here.

Most blogs now have each blog post 'tweeted' to Twitter. This provides additional exposure. Register your blog with Technorati and others. Leave comments (appropriate ones) with a link to your blog on other sites. As said above, write good content, focus on your audience and stick with it. Good luck!

Brian is right; you can take advantage of this feature and let everybody know about your blog.

Additionally, you might want to get in touch with BlogPlay, BlogCatalog, Wikio and other blogs directories in order to be included. You can also make good deals with different sites by making reviews of them and they will mention your blog whenever they can.

Social media, collaboration...it is good to see that we are people communicating and you should take advantage of that.

Technology and advertising is good but contacts, public relation and good content are the blood of your blog.

In addition to some of the great comments and advice above, I would certainly reiterate the importance of High Quality Content that is fresh, relevant and unique.

"Content is King!"

Also something that I think most people tend to forget is to target your immediate locality market, your local area.

You will probably struggle to rank for your industry on a global/national perhaps even regional level, but I would suggest that you start local and become the authority on your subject allowing you to build upon that..

Best of luck

Mike

A good idea to increase your blog's visibility is using the right words. Are you familiar with the concept of Tags or Keywords?

If you use them properly you will be able to reach your specific audience. Try Google insights and find the most popular words used by business people.

Google Adwords will also help you in your keyword research. It will take you some time but you can do it.

Which one is better, All-in-one-SEO pack or HeadSpace? I've been using Headspace for a while but keep hearing about Aios pack very often and was wondering which one is better in what it does? Please share your experience.
