In terms of being indexed by search engines there is no difference.

I rarely see any of Blogger/Wordpress.com or Google Sites websites ranking well when compared to sites with their own domain name.

You can use your own domain name on Wordpress.com for a free, Google Sites and Blogger may offer this service too, I don't know.

But the key thing is to have your own domain name. By that I mean, you should own www.stuffrocks.com instead of using wordpress.com/stuffrocks or sites.google.com/stuffrocks. It look more professional, less spammy and will rank better.

I agree with Josh to use Wordpress, it's an excellent application.

Google Sites offeres as Blogger and Wordpress the possibility to use your own domain, for example have a look at

conceptos.mx (based on Google Sites) or philitics. com (powered by blogger).

Anyhow, I think main reason, why we do not see so many hight ranked results, might be that professional internet provider still prefer own solutions for flexability...
