What would you suggest to do this properly? I want to start creating videos and uploading them to a new video blog.

Forget the high quality stuff. It is not needed. most tubers just use a webcam or imovie for there videos. Final cut express is easy to use. Lynda has really nice tutorials. Personally I hate the flip because for doing vlogs you can never tell if the cam has your whole face in it. Not to mention it does not have any features to take the shaking out of the video. They key with video is getting views. Getting noticed which can be next to impossible. Youtube is a different cat so to speak. It has a beavis and butthead subculture. Also be ready for the emails you will get from people on youtube, underage people. 13teen year old boy in a wheel chair emailed me talking about suicide. Another girl out of the blue tells me I am her friend and then tells me she was raped when she was younger. Don't annoy people with the sub for a sub game. You will get little comments like "I like your channel" on your channel page. It is a trick people use to get you to look at their channel.. who wrote than. Another trick is people will make comments in your videos like they know you. |

First of all, you will need a Flip camera, which is very easy to use. Then, if you don´t know much about how to manage the software on your pc I recommend you hire a freelance video editor. Then, upload it to your site and that will be all. |

You can try using a webcam if you don't need high quality (you may already have one and if not you can pick one up on ebay for $10). Depending on your workflow this may be all you need (i.e. recording directly to YouTube using your webcam is pretty easy). There are a whole bunch of middle tier products, I do not have experience with any so cannot recommend any. I would however say that I would not purchase any until I checked out the features on YouTube and downloaded a copy of Adobes product (below) so I knew what I was looking for. If you are serious about this you might check out Adobe's Visual Communicator. And of course if you want to go pro there are a whole bunch of pro video tools along with expensive hardware. |
