SEO (Search Engine Optimization) for those who don't know. SEO is a combination of many techniques: Keyword Research, Competitive Analysis, Content Development and Copywriting, Title, Keyword, Description Meta tag optimization, and Standards Compliant web design.

SEO starts with the website design itself. Ensure that your website meets W3C Standards and Section 508 Accessibility standards. This includes title and alt tags for all images and links, as well as many other techniques to increase informational content while maintaining your visual appearance.

Optimizing your Title, keyword and description tags for each page. Create unique tags for your pages. Utilize keyword research to determine what will best suit your website.

Build custom error pages. 404, 500, etc. error pages should have your website's template and a generic error message.

Setup a 301 redirect for your domain so the search engines don't index both mysite.com and www.mysite.com. This is a critical mistake which can cost you rank in the search engines. You can choose to have all traffic go to www or not.

SEO Optimized content. Many people overlook the importance of quality optimized content. I personally hire someone experienced to write or rewrite content for my websites. Utilizing keywords in content, when and how much. Better, higher quality content. and more importantly, attractive content.

Google is your friend. They offer many tools, and if you don't understand some of what I have listed, a quick search will suffice.
