I have been playing around with a concept that I think has the potential to gain some traction. The concept (high level) is to provide a platform for a specific group that allows them to us one site to stay organized (i.e. blogs, reference, to-do list, notes/ideas, chat). Currently, the niche field that I plan on targeting uses the web a great deal to ask questions, research, troubleshoot, and stay up to date on industry news. Does anyone know of a solution that currently exists (I know the concept is a bit abstract) on the market?

Thanks,

OK, if you have a niche in mind then it doesn't really matter if the product or service already exists... You can bet that a generic mass market version of every imaginable product already exists.

If you have a niche in mind that has a problem that isn't adequately served by an existing product or service, you are half way there, my advice would be not to overestimate the competition and go for it.

All the Best!

I'm not sure if you mean customer-facing, internal only or both, but there are tons of collaborative 'all in one' services out there. A Google search for groupware might reveal some answers to what you're looking for.

Best of luck!

Pageflakes.com is kind of like that. Also, I think iGoogle kind of does what you're suggesting, maybe I am missing exactly what you're referring to though. Good luck!
