I am a programmer, but recently I am considering to start building a freelancing business that would let me to move out of the city to a quieter and smaller place. I would like to know if there is anyone here who did the same and what is the best way to do this?

I have freelanced (as a web developer) a few times when between jobs, and for me it's been mostly about who you know. At first it's much easier get hired by people who know you and people you've worked with before.

Once you've got your first few jobs under you belt, assuming you're good you can build a reputation and expand your client base but it's those first few that are are tough.

What you mean by the best way? I think that if you are able to start your own business as a freelancer and live from it, there are no major problems for you to move out. As I can see, you have already started a business around AskAboutGadgets. If you are able to make some money out of it, you will have two sources of income.

What is your freelancing business all about? Is just you working as a freelancer? If that is the case you can go through Elance, Guru and Indeed to seek for job opportunities.
