I'm a software developer in New York City and I'm NOT interested in financial services. I'm not also interested in moving to California (having nice weather all the time is so boring). I made the move from full-time to indie/freelance work and I miss having an office full of other geeks to geek out with.

What are some good weekly or monthly networking events in New York City for indie software developers? I'm thinking technical talk followed by socializing, but I'm open to hearing about other formats, too.

I've been using Startup Digest for a while now to find out events in NYC. You can sign up to get their newsletter (once per week every Monday) in order to find out about cool networking and entrepreneurial events within NYC. http://thestartupdigest.com/

Also, check out Mashable to find their Weekly Mashable Social Media & Web Event Guide. You can do a search for it, but as far as I know, there's no quick digest way to obtain it like the above. http://www.mashable.com

Another good site to check is the NY Tech Meetup. You typically have to pay to go to their events, but you can subscribe for an email of their upcoming events on the Meetup page and then choose which ones to go to. http://www.meetup.com/ny-tech/
