I have read some articles about SEO and most of them point to incoming links as one of the best techniques to increase your site’s visibility and drive more traffic.

What most of them don’t say is how to actually do that. Can anybody help me with this subject? Can I do it on my own or should I hire a professional SEO?

What will really increase my incoming links? How can I make popular sites link to my site? Is it also important for Google if I do it myself on social networks, forums and blogs? I mean, if I contribute there with some useful info and leave my link for the ones who get interested in taking a look at my site. Is this correct?

A couple ways to build incoming links:
-Publish articles at EzineArticles.com, Goarticles.com, etc.
-Email other webmasters about link exchange
-Get in directories (Think Dmoz or Yahoo! Directory)
-Post helpful information in forums and put a link in your signature/account
-Twitter/Facebook/Myspace/Friendster accounts
Good luck with your quest!
