Advertising can cost a lot of money, and most of the times, your budget is limited. Do you know any way of doing this for free?

Thank you

Top of mind these are some solid basic things for 'free' advertising:

  1. Word of mouth by your current customers. Ask them for referrals to their friends, and ask them for referrals on Yelp.
  2. A clean website that clearly describes: a) your product or service; and b) who would benefit from it; and c) your business contact information including address, phone, hours of operation. Don't worry about search engine optimization at this point, just put on your website the same information you'd convey to someone in person, if you were going to sit down with them. But do consider putting your phone and address on every page, which will help match you to local folks (assuming you are local business, vs online reseller)
  3. Make sure Google/Yahoo/Bing have your 'local business' listing correct
  4. Consider doing a blog, where you either talk about things related to your business, or 'aggregate' interesting things, to ease this process for others. How can your blog help folks become an expert in your product/service, so they can make a good decision?
  5. If a local business, consider product or service donations to school fundraisers/auctions, where your cost of product/service is low, but it will get you in front of local buyers.
  6. Go to the library and browse any of the 'Guerilla Marketing" books to get you thinking about how to do things with good impact, that only require your effort.

There is a lot of great ways to promote online at no cost whatsoever but it takes graft. Blogging is a good idea but once you have a piece of online real estate like a blog or indeed a website, without pushing it it will lie dormant. Find an angle rather than simply an explanation of your service or product and write your blog and construct with effective keywords and optimised (tagged) pictures (as a lot of blog traffic arrives through image searching). Once it's done deliver it through as many online tools as you can find. Stumbleupon pushes content on to other "stumblers" with similar interests, so when I say find an angle its important in order for people to want to give it thumbs up and share it. If an angle is hard make it funny or mix your prodct or service in to a list of other services and make a top ten list of blah blah blog. Submit it to reddit.com and digg.com make a group on Facebook but if your company is called Smith and Sons and you make, I dunno, ant farms, don't call your group "Smith & Son's Ant Farms" call it "I Love Insects" Then your group will grow organically rather than be filled with people you push in there. You then have a captive audience. Tweet on Twitter - but keep doing it - it will build. And remember, if you sit back after doing one peice of work, if you do another one it will double your traffic - sounds obvious but its an ongoing graft as I said. Hope this is all useful.

people just came to ignore TV advertising, and radio advertising, and the reason for that is that sometimes the promise one thing and then, deliver another. So what's the point in spending hundreds of dollars on something people won't even tell?.

Your choice is right, free advertising, is the best way to go. One of the most popular free advertising are Blogging, e-mail marketing, forums, on-line directories, and E-bay. It is said that E-Bay generates “serious traffic”. You can advertise on e-bay joining auctions, about me page (it's a page that tells the visitors what should they visit, and there you can add a link to your website so users can subscribe for newsletters).

Be sure to take a look at this site, I've found very good ideas to promote a business for free myself.
