I want to periodically send updates to my site's visitors about updates and other news. Since Twitter limits you to 140 characters, what would be a better solution for reaching my audience? Collecting emails and sending out monthly/bi-monthly newsletters, or allowing them to subscribe to an RSS feed that automatically publishes new content?

Yikes! Do both - do everything that will let you put yourself in front of your potential customers that you can find.

Have you tried with FeedBurner? I have try it with great results. For me, it is the best way to keep readers up to date.

No, but I'd be more than willing to give it a shot. Does your RSS feed generate a fair share of traffic to your site? – jlech Feb 5 at 20:11

I use feedburner for fresh content delivered to the inbox, but there is no reason why you can't build up lists too - for example you could offer optin free courses (delivered by autoresponder) on subjects your readers are interested in - you can build up a list and either market your own product, an affiliate product and / or rent out your top advertising spots to another marketers.

feedburner is free and basically an autoresponder the advantage is your posts are a blog and can be read on-line too.
