I want to start a classifieds website for students at a nearby college for them to buy and sell textbooks and such. Is it legal to use their mascot in the domain name?

For example the domain would be: MascotNameList.com or MascotNameBooks.com or MascotNameStudent(s).com.

I think there will be no problem for you to use that as they College might not use it with a commercial purpose. Anyways, you should talk with them and show them your idea. If the college think it is a good idea and support it, it will be easier for you to make advertising and reach students there. Then, you should think about a trademark and copyright policy for your site but maybe leaving apart the mascot.

If you want to be in the safe side, a simple letter of request to them with a written answer will suffice.
