I am looking for a telemarketing company to book meetings/appointments for demos by cold calling.

I am speaking with my first telemarketing company ever... and I am unsure as to their legitimacy. Something tells me that they are just looking for $900 to buy a list (5000 names) and that they are not really going to do much good.

$900 is not a lot to lose... but then again it is. ;)

I'd like to compare them to other companies and would love a reference.

Getting a list to call can be very simple, there are many company good list directory sites such as Hoovers. I have used it and it is great.

As far as the company goes, be sure to understand their "metrics". How mant calls do they make? What is their contact ratio? What is the contact to lead ratio?

Once you know these numbers (if they will tell you) you can measure if the investment is right for you.

You also will want to check references as well, be sure to ask for at least 10. Although you probably wont call them all, if they cant get you 10.....they arent worth talking to.

Ask THEM for references.

Who have they worked with? What were the results? Can you call former clients of that firm?

What to look for in a telemarketing company:

  • An internal Quality Assurance department. You should be able to specify the percentage of calls that are listened to as well as provide some idea of how the call are evaluated.
  • Remote anonymous call monitoring. You should be able to listen in to any call whenever you want without notifying the vendor

Unless the company has experience in the services you provide you might want to find your own list source. There are any number of places yto obtain lists and many will allow you to target the list by various demographics.
