You can definitely choose your own, assuming it is available. Most web hosting companies will have a utility that will let you search available domain names, or you can go to a registrar such as GoDaddy.

Hello Jodie, well, I think I can help you with that.

Choosing your domain name is not hard but is not easy either. You need to know that the domain name is what is typed into the search bar in order for your webste to be found. So your domain name should be the name of your business or soething really close, that will help customers find the website.

Here you have a few steps you can keep in mind in order to make this process simpler.

Step 1: Think in what do you do, because your domain name should pertain somewhat to the business you are going to be running.

Step 2: Try to use a paper to write several ideas for your name, this will give you a huge word bank.

Step 3: Make the name short. You always try to choose the shorter one, is gonna be easier for customers find your websites using search engines.

Step 4: Search a memorable name. I think you want customers rememer the name right?

Step 5: One thing is not a really good choice is using your personal name. Maybe can looks great but is not a good choice.

Step 6: As I say, think in a short name and dont make it confusing. Just stick to the point. Spell things clearly.

Step 7: And the last is, choose a couple of names for your portal before talk with the webhosting company, this is that you have to be sure that the domain you choose is not already taken.

Remember that your domain name is your identity on the Internet so take your time to select one.

Regards.
