I would like to know what should I do in order to start selling homemade pottery? I'd really appreciate some tips.

Thanks.

The best thing of selling homemade pottery is using the power of the only brand that lasted over 4000 years and still number one which is "handmade".

In addition to selling your inventory, do not forget to emphasize custom production ability. You can also consider creating special collections for clients with better purchasing power.

Collections derivated from first period civilizations like Ionia, Hittite, Assyrian, Egyptian could be an interesting experience.

Many times, pottery is an impulse buy, so you need to put yourself out where people are likely to see your products and buy them on the spot. Craft fairs will likely be your best option. This site seems to list a lot of them. I don't know where you're located, but you can probably find one within a short drive of your home almost every weekend.

Now, it will take more to grow your business than just lugging a bunch of pottery to a craft fair. You need to market yourself thoroughly while you're there. Make sure everybody who comes to your booth leaves with a business card. Have a sign-up sheet where people can add their e-mail address to your mailing list. If possible, actually bring your supplies and make some pottery during the craft fair. People feel more involved (and therefore more likely to buy) if they actually get to witness your craft in action.

Once you have an established list of e-mail addresses, make use of it. Let them know when you have new products. Let them know when you're having a sale. Let them know what craft fairs you will be attending. Don't get to the point where they're sick of getting e-mails from you, but definitely keep in touch.

Well, selling your homemade pottery should be the same as selling any other homemade product.

To start, try to manufacture several products, these should be of all kinds, and if you can try to make them UNIQUE, and why not? RARE, you can also add them a personal touch to all of them so as to create some kind of a "trademark", you know what I mean.

OK, after the manufacturing process is completed, elaborate an inventory for personal managing and the MOST important thing: create a photo catalog of the items available for sale, this catalog may be printed or you can upload it to a website, if you plan on doing one.

After this, just wait for the costumers to come!

How to get customers? That's another story.
