I just want to know what is the best invoicing or accounting software for freelancers. Is it the same one used by companies? Are there any substantial differences among them? Do you have any list of recommended software?

Ashley, hello, well I can only remember two names related with your question Freshbooks in the invoicing department and IAC-EZ for accounting. There are many free services available on the internet so I think you can just use google to find others. If you need a more powerful, software-based solution, QuickBooks can be a great option.

Good luck and take care!

I've used and would reccommend Blinksale.com and FreeAgent. The latter has by far the most features.

Three I have used, and continue to use for various businesses I am involved with are:

  • Curdbee.com
  • BillingManager.com (part of Intuit/Quickbooks)
  • BillingBoss.com (part of Sage)
  • CreativeProOffice.com

I actually just started using Creative Pro Office for a new venture and am loving it for it's functionality. I'll soon be moving a CurbBee account over to it.

Hi Ashley, One of the great invoicing tools that I had used and recommend blinksale and time59 are fantastic and very easy to use.

Hope it helps!

I've dabbled with www.Freshbooks.com but find it a bit complex to be honest. I'm going to try Blinksale though, thanks for the input!

I haven't tried all the above listed ones, but I have tried several of them. Freshbooks is a bit complex in my opinion, though it seems to be the market leader at the moment.

If you want something ultra simple to use, try GetHarvest. If you want a little more power, but still really easy to use, try Xero

We've used both and loved them. We used harvest for the majority of the first year, and Xero ever since.

If you are a starting freelancer, just start with Microsoft Word to create and invoice template, use email to send, and PayPal if necessary process Credit Card if needed. There is no reason to spend money on Invoicing unless you have 50 or more clients a year.

Hi Ashely, I would just like to add that Time59 (www.time59.com) has full accounts receivable functionality. It can handle underpayments and overpayments and lets you track all of your client balances to the penny. Chris
