I have a literary blog where I upload all my writings and I am working hard to promote the site. This blog is my main source of income and I was hired several times to edit other writer’s work, reviews and articles since I opened it.

I’d like to increase my blog's traffic to let more people know about my work. Is there any way to get good marketing out of my blog to increase revenue?

Are you asking for comments on your blog? Are you encouraging visitors to voice their opinion on your writings? Are you asking your visitors to tell someone they know about your services?

In addition to the advice already given, utilizing other social media can be beneficial. Set up a Twitter account, using the search.twitter.com search using a keyword appropriate for describing your typical client. Review the list that appears and begin following those people. Interact with their tweets by re-tweeting, responding to questions that they ask, responding to general tweets in a way that encourages them to continue the conversation with you. Within a short time, about a month or so, you can then start mentioning your blog in a tweet, then every time you post to the blog tweet about it w/the URL. Make sure your profile page reflects you, your blog, your values.

Facebook Fan Page would be a good idea, too. Encourage your current customers and visitors to 'Become a Fan' through the blog. Post on the Fan Page wall items/quotes/facts that will be of interest to your customers and followers. Encourage discussion by adding the occasional poll then ask a question about the results. You can send people from Twitter to your Facebook Fan Page.

Make sure you have a reason for doing your marketing and a strategy in place. This strategy will be your outline/guide for moving forward with your marketing efforts.

Try partnering with someone/a business who has an existing userbase that resembles somewhat yours - this usually means that there is a potential conflict of interest, but it's worth trying.

Partner with them to get them to send out information and links via an email newsletter (they MUST have CAN-SPAM valid user emails, NOT 'harvested' emails). You could do the same in return from them - it would be a win-win situation.

From a different angle, ensure that your website is as optimized as possible. This means:

  • page load time
  • search engine friendly
  • great content
  • easy to navigate
  • other criteria as well, most likely!

If you're making money with your blog, it likely means that there is some sort of user conversion workflow - the path which you want the user to follow that makes you money. It could be a direct purchase, a valid email sign-up, completing a form - the possibilities are endless. What is important is that this path is optimized, and for that you might try something like Google Web Optimizer (GWO).

Coupled with Google Analytics (GA), GWO can really improve your blog's income - but it takes quite a bit of work and fiddling with content and paths.

I hope this helps - even if it is a BIT techy. Good luck!

Maybe trying Google analytics that works hand in hand with Wordpress is a good option. It will help you track your traffic and understand how it’s working.

Also some social networking will be of help too. Going to book presentations or other literary events where you can be face to face with professionals can help your blog get some sponsoring.

It’s not necessary to hire a PR agency to have your blog promoted; you can be in touch with the people in your area and make the connections yourself. Communicate, send e-mails create and build relationships with your users, and they will do the marketing for you.

I guess that you need to get in touch with other bloggers that are interested in the same topics you are.

You also need to take a look at different elements like the page load time and the content, as well as the fact that if your blog is easy to navigate through or not.

Good Luck!

To promote your blog, you should first write posts people will want to read. Make sure your blog is content-based. Then, you should do some search engine optimization for your blog. Use a CMS system that helps you integrate and add posts. Submit your RSS to feed directories. Send a small ping to each service and build links. You could also create some Buzz about it and capture subscribers via e-mail.

Well, it depends in what kind of public you want to reach. It's tough work. First, post valuable content. Then, do some of the things Inga wrote minutes ago.. And if you're going all-in, think about AdWords or some system like that.

One way to promote your blog is to submit it on [alphainventions.com].[1] Alpha Inventions is this amazing site that allows you to "submit" your blog to a reading cycle. It's a good way to promote your blog and also a good away to read some interesting blogs that you normally wouldn't read or even come across.
