In the blogging business is adsense the only way to get good revenues? Because I believe people don’t visit a blog to click on the ads, but to look for info, so I’d like to know what other alternatives to making blogging a profitable business are.

Well, writting good content will draw people to the site, but if you rely only in adsense, what would happen when a person leaves your site without clicking on an add? You gotta have a second strategy.

My take is that subscription is the best way to get revenues out of a blog, also by having premium accounts and future blogs subscriptions.

It depends.
Some statistics show that about 2% of visitors click the ads, some show about 5%.

So let's assume:

  • 2% of visitors click ads.
  • price of a single click is 1 cent.

With these assumptions you will earn:

Amount = Visitors * 0.02 * 0.01

So in case you have:

  • 100 visitors per day you could earn 100 * 0.02 * 0.01 = 0.02$
  • 1000 visitors per day you could earn 0.20$
  • 10 000 visitors per day you could earn 2.00$
  • 100 000 visitors per day you could earn 20.0$
  • 1 000 000 visitors per day you could earn 200.00$
  • 10 000 000 visitors per day you could earn 2000.00$

Now you count the number of visitors of your website and estimate the amount you can earn.

Long story short: you can earn enough money on ads if you have very large number of visitors.

You can make money, but not a lot unless you have lots of UV's. I would not even worry unless you have at least 1000 UV's per day. My web site gets about 4000 UV's per day and makes about $50 from Adsense per day but it varies a lot depending on the content.
