Yes, body language has a place, but it can’t be learned or scripted; it comes from absolute knowledge that what you offer is best in class. You must know it is, not merely think it is.
But in some industries being the best has its own challenges.
My company is in the investment advisory business. A marketing contractor ignored advice not to advertise rates of return; they were the highest available at that time. The contractor spent $110,000 without attracting a single lead.
The product is now considerably improved and will be relaunched this month. But the only claim we will make is that we expect to beat the major indexes. That itself is hard to do but is a believable goal.
It will allow clients to be so amazed when they see their own returns they will brag to others and gain us increased business.
Our goal is not to sell our service but to gain trust. Do that and sales will look after themselves.
But I must admit that not seeing a long line of eager buyers on our first day will be frustrating, no matter how certain we are about the quality of our system after 11 years of R&D!
