Launching Start-ups

If you were to launch a new web design agency, what business/pricing model would you use?

Hey, I remember when I started my digital agency out of my apartment back in 2011, kudos to you for taking the big step, you'll enjoy the ride. I own a digital agency called Noticed based out of Philadelphia, PA. I've pretty much made all the mistakes in the start-up phase of the business over the last 3 years, as well as tried nearly every business model. Below is my responses to each of your models: 1.) This seems like a virtual teams model and its more driven towards larger companies who can afford to hire a team each month. The advantages of this model are 12 month contracts and reoccurring monthly income, and the profit/loss is fairly easy to determine. If you decide on this then you need to primarily position yourself as a virtual teams agency with a USP. 2.) I mentor many start-up web agencies and I've never recommended packaged pricing, because it limits your growth. Also you reach smaller clients vs larger clients and it comes across as cheaper services to clients who have value for their digital presence. If you want to charge $20-100k for a WordPress website, then you need to go with option 3. 3.) Our agency follow the a-la-carte pricing model and its helped us grow significantly, this is due to fact we branded and positioned ourselves to target clients who don't look at the price 90% of the time and are looking for value. Not only that, we built a really strong sales process that allows us to target clients who are spending $50-200k on a website. I would go with this option without a doubt. Extra Tip: I would recommend adding Maintenance & Support, SEO and PPC services to your business model. You can sell these services to the clients on a 12 month contract which will give a stable income to concentrate on fixed bid projects. If you ever need to jump on a call and get some advice/direction, then feel free to reach out to me. Thanks, Adam Butt Noticed LLC

Growth Hacking

What paid advertising, email marketing, growth strategy, SEO, PR, etc. methods had the most impact on increasing your website customer base?

Adam Butt

Well its tough to answer this as it really depends on the type of business you're in, because certain marketing strategies only work for specific businesses. In terms of immediate impact to your business, then PPC or Social Media marketing are by far the quickest way to get your business up and running. The key to launching a successful PPC/SMM campaign is the following: 1.) Have an expert who knows/understands the customer funnel 2.) Focus on bringing your CPC down as much as possible, which will allow your budget to last longer. 3.) Do an in depth research of upward and downward keyword trends and try to nail down key areas that you can maximize I own a digital agency called Noticed based in Philadelphia, PA. Our agency has had extremely successful results with our clients seeing an increase of traffic and sales of 40%-300%. within the first year. I hope this helps.

Press Releases

How do I get my website noticed through press releases?

Adam Butt

I own a digital agency called Noticed, we haven't recommended press releases to our clients for more than 4 years. Press releases are for dinosaurs, its probably the worst way to market your business. A quicker growth strategy would be PPC, Social Media Marketing, Email Marketing etc. Why are you concentrating on press releases?

Entrepreneurship

My startup just failed. What could I start to "immediately" generate $1,000/mo?

Adam Butt

Hi Alexander, First, sorry to hear about the start-up failing, but remember there is always light at the end of a tunnel and there are many tunnels you can go through. I started my digital agency at the tender age of 23 with startup captial $500 and the business was based out of my house. Sadly, I failed my first year in the business, but I learned a tremendous amount from my mistakes. I've just had my 3rd year anniversary and we are now doing over a $1 million in revenue. Questions: 1.) What is your career background? 2.) What is your primary skillset? I believe every successful entrepreneur needs to be perfect three important steps: people, process, product. I'd like to get on a call with you and help uncover any of the problems you're having and potentially point you in the right direction to making money fairly quickly. Look forward to hearing from you. Best, Adam
