Blogging
I have a marketing blog that has been collecting dust for a few years. The blog has great SEO value and has been mentioned on alot of big sites over the years. I turned my focus away from it to grow another business, letting it go cold. Over the years it grew to about 4k monthly unique visitors with a 1k email list. It's been occupying mind - should I relaunch and commit to it or focus the energy elsewhere?

This is a question for Neil Patel! (cue Superman theme)
Since I'm not Neil--though I interviewed him--I'll give my Regular Joe Online Marketer opinion.
I think you should re-launch it. Two big reasons:
1) Branding is the name of the game, and your old blog has it.
2) Nobody cares that you've "been away"...as long as you're back with an acceptable reason and great content.
Heck, make the comeback part of your Mission, and announce it loud and often that your purpose is to Rekindle the Flame of Marketing Knowledge, and this blog is the very best way you can think of to do it!
You don't have to fight to get noticed...it's already drawing traffic. As an asset, the blog is already functioning. You've been away on other projects, you're back now because of Reason X, and let's get reinvigorated about marketing!
Think about (ahem) "real" real estate. An area's hot, new development, lots of interest. Construction, buying, selling. Then it matures and the market moves on, and nobody cares. The area may even go into decline. Then some enterprising developer comes along and turns the whole old thing into lofts and presto! What's old is new again and everyone loves it and the area's back in the spotlight.
Have a great "return to mission" reason, and maximize that branding. You know people love great content. All they need is that reason to come back.

It depends on what you want to get out of re-investing your time in the blog. It's not about the traffic but whether it meets your goals - e.g. love for writing, business development, etc. The reality about blogging is doing it well takes time, effort and creativity so think hard before diving back in.

Hi,
I would suggest that you re-launch your old blog. It would prefer not to call it a re-launch, rather it is sort of a re-branding.
Here are few steps you might consider taking.
1. Update design. Consider flat and thin approach
2. Integrate social media
3. Start generating new and interesting content
4. Re-activate your social accounts
5. After having done sufficient amount of work, shoot an email to your list and friends as well. Let them know that you are back in town.
6. Devise new SEO plan and continue implementing.
There can be many more small things but I just wanted to give you some encouragement. Remember, it is always better to work with old domain.
It is a matter few weeks only when you will start seeing good enough improvements.
Regards,
Fahad

I believe that old is gold. Old blogs matter a lot. There are countless reasons why you should care about your old blog posts, but one of the biggest reasons is that Google likes fresh content. Google displays dates right on their SERPs to show users when a piece of content was last updated. Therefore, if you update older posts, Google will show the date you last changed a blog post on the results pages rather than the original post-date. This means that you can benefit from higher click-through rates, traffic, and more. This increase in traffic led to tons of backlinks. More backlinks led to higher search rankings. And higher search rankings led to even more traffic and backlinks.
